As children, we were all captivated by the illusion created by the mirrors of a kaleidoscope: turning it sets every element in motion, causing the image to change continuously. The paintings by Renat Semyonov presented in the exhibition \u201cRhythms Through and Through\u201d can likewise be described as kaleidoscopic\u2014ever-changing, revolving without pause.<\/p>\n

In his work, the artist sees no point in competing with Bruegel\u2019s sophistication or the monumental scale of Michelangelo and William Blake. Nevertheless, he creates his works with an eye to their legacy, understanding that the grandeur of an idea can lend abstract form the substance of a clear and powerful statement.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\u201cRenat Semyonov\u2019s works are multi-figure puzzles that can take hours to unravel. The artist commands several languages\u2014the language of religious symbolism, the language of metaphor, and the language of the alchemists\u2014yet his statements remain intelligible and relatable to the ordinary viewer.\u201d Sasha Rishar<\/b><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

Renat Semyonov<\/b> has been a member of the Union of Artists of Russia since 2000. His work has been exhibited at the Central House of Artists, the Moscow Union of Artists Gallery on Kuznetsky Most, and the Engineering Building of the Tretyakov Gallery. In 2003, together with his father, Mikhail Mikhailovich Semyonov, he received a diploma from the Russian Academy of Arts for the tapestry series \u201cThe Creation of the World\u201d and \u201cMetamorphoses.\u201d His first solo exhibition was held in Beijing in 1995. His paintings and graphic works are held in private collections in Russia, China, Britain, and Germany.<\/em><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
