The painting of Ilya Drozdov<\/a> exists in a space where the image ceases to be merely an image and becomes an action. His paintings are structured like a stage - with depth, light, movement, and an inner dramaturgy.<\/div>\n
The exhibition title \"Theatre of Painting\" refers not to illustrativeness, but to a particular way of constructing pictorial space. In the tradition of the Renaissance and especially the Baroque, the world was perceived as a spectacle, where light, color, and composition create a sense of presence. In Drozdov's works this tradition continues to exist, but in a contemporary pictorial language - with intensified color, pronounced decorativeness, and an almost theatrical expressiveness of form.<\/div>\n

Most of the works presented in the exhibition are landscapes. Yet this is not plein-air painting, nor a documentary depiction of nature. Space in Drozdov's work is always organized as a set: trees form the wings, the sea opens as a backdrop, flowers and objects serve as props. The artist strives for the painting not to be still, so that air and resonance may be felt within it.<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
\"Theatre of Painting\" is an exhibition about the painting as a space where action continues. In this theatre there are no actors - there is only color, air, and movement, from which the pictorial world of Ilya Drozdov is composed.<\/div>\n
