On 22 April, together with its partner and friend, the La Farandole Hotel<\/a>, the Kvartira S Gallery held a masterclass led by Madame Genevi\u00e8ve Canto on recreating the texture of marble on canvas.<\/p>\n

A pupil of Salvador Dal\u00ed and founder of the Academy of Arts in Bandol, she spent several hours sharing the secrets of her craft. Students from the Academy attended the masterclass. Everyone present could observe how a regular texture-reproduction lesson unfolds and watch a painting come to life.<\/p>\n

Genevi\u00e8ve Canto\u2014a guest of honour at the gallery\u2019s international Autumn in Provence project last year\u2014is a world-renowned specialist in rendering the surfaces of materials. In her works, she captures the physical qualities of a variety of textures\u2014wood, stone, and glass\u2014with remarkable skill. A distinctive feature of Genevi\u00e8ve\u2019s compositions is the presence of tiny figures depicted in various everyday situations.<\/p>\n

Slava Likhachyov, an artist taking part in the Cinema in Provence<\/a> project, then gave a quick masterclass of his own in watercolour painting. In a matter of minutes, he depicted the olive trees growing in the hotel patio. As a finishing touch, he added... tiny figures frolicking among the branches, much to the delight of both Genevi\u00e8ve, who received the painting as a gift, and the assembled press.<\/p>\n
