We present “Lovers,” a solo exhibition by the promising young artist Maria Subbotina.
The “Lovers” series comprises paintings about people, love, loneliness, and the desire to find oneself, one’s place in life, and one’s soulmate. Here, two people pass through the stages of life and relationships together. It all begins in a fairly realistic vein, but then moves beyond reality and romance into the depths of the subconscious, associations, and archetypes. “Lovers” also reflects the artist’s passion for travel and dreams of distant journeys. These places became the paintings’ inspirational setting.

While developing the exhibition together with psychologist Denis Borisov, Maria Subbotina examined each painting as a stage through which the Lovers pass. Thus, each work in the exhibition will be accompanied by a short essay exploring the symbolism of its imagery. This presentation of the works will be of particular interest to those fascinated by psychology, dream interpretation, and self-discovery.
