Kvartira S Gallery announces an Open Call for participation in the group exhibition
“THE LIGHTNESS OF BEING,”
to be held in the exhibition halls of the ARTPLAY Design Center
(10 Nizhnyaya Syromyatnicheskaya Street, Kurskaya metro station, Moscow) from January 4 to 30, 2024.

Applications will be accepted until December 22, 2023, at opencall@kvartiras.com.

The number of participants is limited.

Works addressing politics or the epidemiological situation, as well as nude studies, will not be accepted for the exhibition.

The exhibition opening will take place on Thursday, January 4, 2024, from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. (exhibition presentation, music, aperitifs; dress code: lightness, sparkle, and celebration).

“We live everything as it comes, without warning, like an actor going on cold,” wrote Milan Kundera. There is no point in wondering whether we made the right choice, since there is no way to find out what would have happened had we made a different decision. Whatever the consequences, every choice we make becomes the only right one. We live our lives only once and cannot, as in a computer game, reload and discover what would happen if we chose differently.

There is no point in doubt, speculation, or comparison. Our life is the best simply because it is the only one we have. It becomes the fullest, the most joyful, and the most interesting simply because we will never live another life that is fuller, more joyful, or more interesting.

Works submitted for the exhibition should address one of three main themes:

  1. A memory that makes you smile and brings you happiness.
  2. A story that makes you soar.
  3. An image embodying a dream come true or a wish fulfilled.

Applications sent to opencall@kvartiras.com must include:

  • a CV (the artist’s portfolio in any format and a brief biography, submitted as separate Word files);
  • high-quality photographs of 1–3 completed works, specifying their dimensions, materials, year of creation, and price;
  • a photograph of the artist in JPEG format;
  • a description of the proposed works explaining how they reflect the exhibition’s stated theme (submitted as a separate Word file).

We accept painting, graphic art (framed (in a thin light-colored or black frame)), photography, installations, collages, large-scale sculptures, and mixed media—between 1 and 3 works per artist. The selection will be made by the curator and the gallery team. All works featured in the exhibition will be offered for sale.

Please note! Participation requires a membership fee: 6,000 rubles for gallery residents and 10,000 rubles for new participants.  The membership fee covers installation services, the printing of promotional materials, PR, announcements in the media and on social networks, the official opening, and guided exhibition tours. The fee is payable after the works have been selected and the exhibition participation agreement has been signed.

An agreement will be signed with each participant.
