From January 4, 2024, following the results of an open call held at the end of 2023, the contemporary art gallery Kvartira S, together with the ARTPLAY design center, opens the exhibition “The Lightness of Being”.

Arina Menshikova

“We live everything all at once, for the first time and without preparation. As if an actor were playing his part in a play without a single rehearsal” — wrote Milan Kundera. There is no sense in wondering whether we made the right choice, since there is no way to verify what would have happened had we chosen otherwise. Every choice we make becomes the only right one, regardless of its consequences. We live our life only once, and cannot, as in computer games, reload and discover what would happen if we made a different decision.

There is no sense in doubts, conjectures, or comparisons. Our life is the best simply because it is the only one. It becomes the fullest, the most joyful, the most interesting simply because we will never live one fuller, more joyful, more interesting.

The exhibition presents works by contemporary artists on the theme of memories and events that made one reflect that life is beautiful, of wishes fulfilled or only wished for, of hopes for the better, and of reflections on happiness.
