The exhibition The Path to Oneself by Yekaterinburg artist Tatyana Sloboda is about the interplay of history and personal memory; it tells of how the past shapes our perception of the present and the formation of identity.
“I believe that art can serve as a kind of bridge between past and present, and at the same time remind us that a sense of belonging and respect for tradition can coexist in harmony with the realities of a new age.”
Tatyana’s works reveal a keen attention to ethnic heritage, grounded both in her own experience and in that of a traveler and observer exploring the diversity of cultures. Through a deep interest in tradition, Tatyana uses painting as a means of recording and interpreting history and culture. The artist embeds figurative scenes within painterly abstractions, creating multilayered compositions that allow the viewer to sense the interconnection of past and present.
“I am inspired by reflections on how memory and tradition, the deep roots of the past and their intersection with current events, can be transformed into art that opens new horizons for understanding ourselves and the world around us.”
Tatyana’s works invite the viewer to reflect on how other cultures and their histories surround us in everyday life, and how these invisible threads of tradition and memory enter our perception of reality.
