Professional photographer Max Amburg
Together with fascinating and talented people, Kvartira S Gallery is preparing a new project, which... we will tell you a little more about later 😉 In the meantime, let us introduce some of the professionals from our dream team:
Maks Amburg is a professional photographer who has worked in the industry for more than 12 years. Maks has conducted hundreds of fashion shoots for glossy magazines, as well as advertising and business photoshoots for world-renowned brands and leading Russian designers. He recently launched an exciting project of his own, “A Photo Day with Maks Amburg,” and today he shares the secrets of successful photography with the readers of Kvartira S Gallery.

Learning
Never stop learning: study the work of other photographers, hone your skills, and seek out your own direction. In addition to gaining hands-on experience, I regularly take advanced training courses. Good masters will always have something valuable to teach you, even if you are already a consummate professional yourself. I studied “European Standards in FASHION Photography and Digital Post-Production” at the Summer International Workshops, attended the “Fashion Photography for Magazines” course in St Petersburg, and completed the “Photo Editing for Contemporary Media” course in Moscow.

The Look
Be sure to ask everyone involved in the photoshoot what kind of result they want to achieve. Discuss the look with the models in advance, taking the location into account. Ideally, use two or three looks during an hour-long shoot.

Time
Keep track of time and account for the precious minutes that may be spent on make-up, hairstyling, changing the set, and arranging the lighting.
Do not expect a person—unless they are a professional model—to know their most flattering angles or begin posing on their own. Offer guidance: more movement means more natural shots. Put on some music, eat sweets, recite poetry—photography absorbs it all.

The Photo Studio
Carefully review which equipment is included in the rental fee and which items are available at an additional cost. Offer the client several studios to choose from. Find a balance between what can be corrected in-camera and what is easier to fix in Photoshop. Always bring spare batteries and have a backup plan in case your equipment needs to be replaced.

Most Importantly
Enjoy the process of shooting, and the result will be outstanding!
