Gallery “Kvartira S” and the Double B café chain present an exhibition of paintings by Alena Borisova “And to Dream of Such a Thing…”
Questions of the origin of life, the existence of the soul, and the structure of the world occupy a central place in the artist’s work. The exhibition is founded on the poetics of seeking answers to eternal human questions and on a journey of the mind, on the expressiveness of images encountered in animals, plants, and nature. Colors, composition, space, moods, reality, and irreality are united by a trembling presentiment and the atmosphere of a celebration of the soul that has found answers to the questions that stir it. We invite you to follow the artist on an unpredictable, magical, at times unsettling, paradoxical, and thoroughly captivating journey.
Alena Borisova: “In art as in life I am a creator, a researcher. At the sight of things, awareness is born, and from it an image, from the image — a painting. The painting creates a new way of seeing. In this ever-repeating wheel of life I see the possibility of self-knowledge and self-expression, as well as the possibility of making the world better— creating a spark, a light that will affect me and those around me. In this I see the meaning.”
Sasha Richard: “On the eve of the New Year holidays we wanted to create a fairy-tale, fantastical atmosphere. Alena Borisova’s works are precisely that; together they create another world in which the artist explores questions of the soul, its journeys, and the mysteries of the universe.”
About the artist:
The artist was born and lives in Moscow. Alena spent her youth at the easel at Children’s Art School No. 7, continued her creative path at the Kosygin Russian State University (formerly MGUDT) in the Faculty of “Environmental Design,” and graduated from the “ExStudio” airbrush school. The artist’s work is permeated with research practices; she is interested in the essence of the world, of the human being, and of all living things.
