Abstract art as interpreted by Anastasia Sviridova and Maria Levi gives rise to distinctive, vivid images that embody harmony and chaos, wholeness and destruction. This is painting born of personal experience, suffused with emotion and movement.

The works presented in the exhibition are created using fluid acrylic and resin. In their creative practice, both artists continually seek experimentation, giving rise to new techniques and new ways of rendering images. Layered combinations of colour, lines contained within the image’s perimeter, and often the original forms of the art objects themselves invariably evoke in the viewer a sense of fullness and compositional completeness.
Themes of beauty, solitude, choice, and searching—intimate and meaningful to everyone—emerge when contemplating non-figurative painting of this calibre. Like still frames from a film, the paintings invite viewers to turn inward and immerse themselves in their own thoughts and sensations.
About the artists:
Anastasia Sviridova
Artist and art historian. She graduated from the Russian State University for the Humanities, Department of Art History (Moscow); the Ponyschool School of Commercial Illustration (St Petersburg); and the MediaArtLab School of Contemporary and Media Art (Moscow). She has participated in numerous group and solo exhibitions in Moscow. She is actively engaged in curatorial and teaching work and is a co-founder of the Art Flash Shop project, creating clothing collections featuring original art prints.
“I want to show that we are all part of something greater than ourselves. To comprehend the grandeur of nature by relinquishing egoism, or to become a bird and look down upon familiar scenes from above, realising that all of this is within us, that all of this is who we are.”
Maria Levi
Artist, experimenter, creator, and mentor of the Art Me Up project. Over time, Maria’s search for materials for new paintings became a way of life, while the development of techniques evolved into an art form in its own right.
“Nothing in nature appears out of nowhere, and this principle also applies to painting. For me, it was love—the vivid emotions from which a profound feeling grew—that awakened the artist sleeping within me, transforming her into an insatiable creator who pours forth everything most vibrant, never knowing what the next experiment will bring.”
