Maria Timofeeva was born into the family of a professional watercolorist, so her immersion in the art world was an organic and natural process. Maria received a classical art education and joined the Union of Artists of Russia with a series of graphic works.
For many years, she worked in mixed graphic media. She experimented with monotype and oil pastels. She taught painting. Today, Maria is a mature artist with a distinctive visual language and considerable potential. She works in oils, the medium she finds best suited to her artistic practice.
The period of self-isolation offered Maria an opportunity for creativity and growth. Maria believes that this time gave her a sense of self-discovery, inner peace, stillness, and hope.
“I was more deeply immersed in the process than ever before, I think,” says the artist.

In the works presented in this project, Maria explores the phenomenon of forgotten objects. She considers the object in its “pure” form, placed within a context through its “memories” of the person who once used it. Maria’s paintings contain no human figures, yet their presence can be sensed through the world of objects.
