The exhibition “The Four Elements” brings together the works of two French artists - Rosario Galatioto and Christiane Filliatreau - in a space open to the sea, to light, and to the breath of nature. It is a dialogue between painting and ceramic sculpture, in which matter becomes the language of the elements: earth, water, air, and fire.
The art of Christiane Filliatreau is born of attentive observation of the vegetal, mineral, and animal worlds. Her works are inspired by organic forms concealed within the very fabric of the natural landscape: mosses, lichens, rock formations, and the intertwining of roots. Turning to clay, the artist creates hybrid forms that exist between growth and petrification, where textures and traces of time are woven into one. Each sculpture appears as a fragment of an imagined landscape, a kind of organic memory in which the mineral seems to come alive once more. Ceramics allow her to explore the subtle tension between strength and fragility. The irregularities and fissures of the surfaces recall the natural processes of transformation and erosion. In the firing, matter undergoes a metamorphosis in which fire acts as a force of transfiguration.
The painting of Rosario Galatioto turns toward the inner landscape. Within it one discerns reliefs, horizon lines, traces of natural processes, yet above all - the breath of matter itself. His painting does not depict a landscape; it extracts its inner essence - the moisture of the earth, the density of stone, the movement of air, the memory of light.
Water occupies a special place in the exhibition - an element that continues the system of the four elements. The sea, visible through the windows of the exhibition space, becomes an inseparable part of the display. Light, reflections, the salt air, and the line of the horizon carry the works beyond the walls. Water binds the works to one another and returns them to their original environment, to the slow rhythm of continuous transformation.
“The Four Elements” is a meditation on the fragile equilibrium between the forces of nature and time, on matter that holds memory, on landscape as an inner state, and on the elements that continue to shape not only the world around us, but the very way we perceive it.
