At the heart of Galina Snagustenko’s work lies an abstract reinterpretation of nature. The works presented in the artist’s solo exhibition Natural Life draw on generalized representational forms poised at the threshold between recognition and abstraction, leaving room for the viewer’s imagination and creating a shimmering luminous environment punctuated by vivid accents of color. Some of the works engage in dialogues as pairs.

Galina Snagustenko’s paintings reflect her perception of the inner world of natural phenomena: cross-sections of stones and minerals, and plant details viewed on a magnified scale. The artist seeks to capture fleeting moments in natural substances and convey nature’s profound and noble essence. Her abstractions are distinguished by subtle tonal transitions. Natural hues serve as defining stylistic reference points.

“Human existence outside nature is impossible. It is the element without which the human being perishes both physically and spiritually; it is what inspires and nourishes the soul. I sought to capture fleeting moments in natural substances and convey nature’s profound and noble essence.” Galina Snagustenko

“Nature and art stand opposed as two contrasting worlds—the natural and the man-made. In her work, Galina neither challenges nature nor copies or imitates it. In the artist’s striking abstract works, the two worlds are reconciled: nature’s triumph and the joy of creation. Flowers, flashes of lightning, and cross-sections of stones can be discerned. Behind the splashes of color lie surges of feelings, emotions, and states of mind awakened by contemplating and admiring the natural beauty of nature and life.” Exhibition curator Vera Timoshenko.
