Kvartira S Gallery announces an Open Call for participation in the group exhibition
“INTERWEAVINGS OF LIFE,”
to be held in the exhibition halls of the ARTPLAY Design Center
(10 Nizhnyaya Syromyatnicheskaya Street, Kurskaya metro station, Moscow) from June 17 to July 31, 2025.

Applications will be accepted until June 5, 2025, at opencall@kvartiras.com.

The number of participants is limited.

The exhibition curator is Maria Shushpanova, an art historian, artist, and author of scholarly articles and lectures.

Each person’s life is an intricate fabric woven from countless threads: ancestral ties, gestures, words, objects, places, and events that existed before us, alongside us, and within us. We inherit and continue, remember and forget, repeat and transform. This exhibition is about the connections that define us, even when we are unaware of them, and about the inseparability of the present and the possible future.
“Interweavings of Life” explores how personal history becomes part of collective history; how language, gesture, the body, and objects can preserve memory; and how we ourselves become part of someone else’s continuation. This exhibition is about these threads—their knots, ruptures, and connections.

We invite artists and collectives working across a variety of media and creatively exploring the following themes:
• family and ancestral histories,
• linguistic and cultural roots,
• bodily and material memory,
• everyday rituals and cultural codes,
• self-determination through connections and ruptures,
• the transformation of identity over time.

Applications sent to opencall@kvartiras.com must include:

  • a CV (the artist’s portfolio in any format and a brief biography in Word, submitted as separate files);
  • high-quality photographs of 1–3 completed works, specifying their dimensions, materials, year of creation, and price (please note that only works priced at no more than 150,000 rubles will be considered);
  • a photograph of the artist in JPEG format;
  • a description of the proposed works (please explain how each work reflects the exhibition’s stated theme).

We accept painting, graphic art (framed in a slim light-colored or black frame), photography, installations, collages, large-scale sculptures, and mixed media—between 1 and 3 works per artist. Works will be selected by the curator and the gallery team. All works in the exhibition will be available for purchase.

Please note! Participation requires an organizational fee:

6,000 rubles for gallery residents and 10,000 rubles for other participants.

The organizational fee covers exhibition installation, the printing of promotional materials, PR, announcements in the media and on social networks, the opening reception, and a digital catalogue of works. The fee is payable after the works have been selected and the exhibition participation agreement has been signed. The fee is fixed and does not depend on the number of works exhibited.

An agreement will be concluded with each participant.
