Thanks to their curiosity, taste, and resolve, by the early twentieth century Moscow held outstanding works by Monet, Renoir, Van Gogh, Gauguin, Picasso, and other celebrated revolutionaries of art.

Each collector had his own approach to acquiring works, his own method of selection, and his own way of shaping a collection. Morozov was extremely selective and bought only masterpieces, while Shchukin would become captivated by a single artist and purchase many of that artist’s works at once.

In the end the collections took on different characters, and when they were brought together after the Revolution in the Museum of New Western Art, they became an object of worldwide interest. The lecture will turn to the most fascinating facts from the history of these collections.

Wine, like art, is many things at once: a companion in conversation, a bearer of meaning, a mark of status, and above all — a source of pleasure.

As part of the vernissage at 5:00 p.m., under the guidance of a great friend of our gallery — Russia’s first wine academician, sommelier Tatyana Selivanova — an interactive tasting took place. Tanya spoke about the secrets of winemakers and the true purpose of wine, and also invited you to try your hand as wine experts.
