Kvartira S Gallery, together with the Varshavskie Bani complex, presents the Timofeeva sisters’ project “Sunbathing.”

The exhibition is based on the artists’ plein-air impressions from the summer seasons of 2022 and 2023. Is “Sunbathing” a joke or a metaphor?

The artists Maria and Tatyana Timofeeva seek to reveal the deepest feelings of a person in a constant search for joy and fullness of life; they explore the fleeting, elusive, not always noticeable flashes of pure happiness and pour them brightly and boldly onto the canvases. Maria and Tatyana’s principal instrument is color; with it they tell stories of love, self-knowledge, openness to the new, delight in the world, and nostalgia for sunlight.

“The sun determines not only the presence of vitamin D in our bodies, but also the measure of life’s energy and joy, of light in the soul. Painting born of the Sun leaves no room for doubt, restlessness, or sadness. To be filled with light always carries a life-giving force and kindles the desire to move forward and strive for the better”, — the Timofeeva sisters.

Maria and Tatyana Timofeeva paint in a free, rapid manner; their impression-paintings provoke the viewer to create their own interpretations. The contemporary world is oversaturated with images, and the artists’ task is not to multiply them thoughtlessly, but to study them, revealing the timeless laws of beauty and harmony. The exhibition brings together paintings that, in the authors’ view, convey this message most openly.
