We present Tatiana Ogilvie-Stasevich’s solo exhibition “Shaken, Not Stirred”. The exhibition, with its evocative and ironic title, brings together two series of the artist’s works.
The first series comprises animal-themed collages made from labels. Torn and chaotically arranged, the labels serve as a canvas while simultaneously forming the image of a character.
In today’s world, a label is not only a means of visually identifying a product, but also an object of scientific study and a work of art. Amid the abundance of goods on store shelves, labels have become something commonplace to us. But what if we were to view a label as a medium, as a new form through which the artist conveys her message?
“Sometimes, after a significant event, people keep a bottle of alcohol from the festive table as a memento. For example, some people preserve a bottle of champagne from their wedding as a symbol of family happiness. I came up with the idea of creating pictures from labels associated with memorable occasions. The cleaned bottles go for recycling, while the labels go on the wall as a collage.”
In her works, the artist seeks to draw the viewer’s attention away from the label’s original purpose—to attract the buyer’s eye to a product and sell it. The only product that can now be sold is perhaps the work of art itself.
The second series on display consists of antipode paintings. Antipodes are non-identical reflections of one another, impossible to align in space yet unable to exist without each other. Each landscape in this series can be rotated 180 degrees and viewed from bottom to top or from top to bottom.
“These are not reversible pictures in which turning the canvas produces a different interpretation of the image. These are two paintings on a single canvas.”
The works depict landscapes: atmospheric English gardens and parks, and fragments of buildings.
About the Artist:
Tatiana Ogilvie-Stasevich
A multidisciplinary artist. Born in Moscow. Passionate about drawing since childhood, she graduated from the Faculty of Social Economics at Moscow State University of Civil Engineering after leaving school. In 2006, she graduated from the Faculty of Graphic Design at the MABiU Institute of Design and Advertising. In 2023, she completed the Advanced Fine Art course at the British Higher School of Art and Design. She works in applied design. She paints in acrylics and oils, often using mixed media: linocut and watercolor, ink and fluid art, collage, and assemblage. She has been a member of the International Art Foundation (IAF) since 2022. Her works are held in private collections in Russia, Germany, and the United States.
