Following the Open Call held in autumn 2021, Kvartira S Gallery presents Yesterday–Today–Tomorrow, a group exhibition of works by contemporary artists.

Throughout the history of art, the representation of time and space has remained one of the most important conceptual and artistic challenges for artists of every generation.

Konstantin S. Through the Looking Glass

In the age of digital reality, capturing the relationship between space and time has become easier—all it takes is a click of a phone camera to document what is happening in a social media feed. An image brings time to a standstill. If life is viewed as a temporal stretch of a journey, then entering the realm of painting means stepping beyond the succession of one’s own images and into another world—into an idea captured by the artist, into eternity.

As part of the Open Call, we invited artists to reflect on the connections between different forms of spatial and temporal relationships and to present works that transport viewers into the past, the future and, of course, eternity.

Veronika Leonova. Entrance

“The question of how to represent the two fundamental forms of matter—‘space’ and ‘time’—has always stirred artists’ imaginations. We have sought to bring together different forms of artistic reflection by different artists at a single point—our new exhibition”, — Sasha Richard.
