Exhibition “Dialectics of Hope”: FAQ
Gallery Kvartira S is holding an Open Call for participation in the group exhibition “The Dialectics of Hope”,
which will run from November 20 to December 4, 2020.
Artists, we answer the questions that interest you:
Sasha Richard, curator of the exhibition “The Dialectics of Hope”
- On what principle are the works selected?
We consider applications from both emerging artists and professionals. Works are selected after a careful review of the artist’s biography and portfolio. Projects that respond to the theme of the OPEN CALL will be accepted for the exhibition.
- Is it possible to exhibit a portrait or a nude?
A portrait may be shown if you can explain how it relates to the stated theme of the exhibition — “The Dialectics of Hope.” Works in the nude style may participate, but it is not preferred. When applying, please keep in mind that the exhibition is intended for viewers of all ages (0+), and the space is public and open to everyone.
- Does the curator help with writing accompanying texts?
Yes, the curator will speak separately with each artist about preparing the accompanying text. At the exhibition, visitors will be able to read brief information about each artist, their works, and the concept of the exhibition as a whole.
- Will an exhibition catalogue be published?
The exhibition catalogue will be released in digital form. Anyone who wishes may receive it via a link we provide, which will also be indicated in the announcement and on the poster.
Olesya Sudzhan, director of the gallery “Kvartira S”
- Is a contract signed with the artists?
Yes, the gallery signs a contract with every artist whose works are selected for the exhibition. If you would like to review the contract text in advance while the Open Call is still open, request it by email at info@kvartiras.com.
- If force majeure circumstances lead to the exhibition being cancelled or closed, is the artist’s membership fee refunded?
The membership fee — 7,000 rubles — must be paid by the artist within 3 days after signing the participation agreement. In the event of a worsening epidemiological situation, the introduction of strict restrictive measures in Moscow, the closure of the exhibition space, or other force majeure circumstances beyond our control, the exhibition will be postponed or cancelled, and the membership fee will be refunded to participants.
- Is the exhibition “The Dialectics of Hope” a selling exhibition?
Yes, all works in the exhibition will be available for purchase. The gallery takes its percentage of the sale price of each work — this is stated in the contract. Sales and delivery are handled exclusively through the gallery. At the buyer’s request, a purchased work may be removed from the exhibition or remain on view until the show is dismantled.
- Do exhibition participants become gallery residents?
Not all of them. Following the Open Call, we will select three artists with whom we will continue to work closely after the exhibition ends. This means we will handle their PR and promotion, offer their works to our clients, and present their pieces at group openings and international projects. And more besides.
But we promise that the remaining participants will also have the opportunity to work with our gallery again in the future — why not.
Evgenia Plokhikh, PR Director of the Kvartira S Gallery
- How will the exhibition be promoted?
The exhibition’s main PR campaign is managed by the Kvartira S Gallery: a dedicated exhibition page is created, announcements are posted on social media, and newsletters are sent to the gallery’s clients and partners.
- Where will the exhibition be advertised?
The principal media partner is Cabinet de l’Art, a leading art magazine, which will publish an announcement on its website. In addition, the exhibition press release is distributed to all major Moscow cultural portals, including
Afisha, TimeOut, Kuda Moscow, My Moscow, ARTTUBE, Moskva.ru, and others.
The exhibition announcement is also posted in specialised Telegram channels dedicated to art and in art communities on Facebook.
A separate exhibition page is also created on the Artplay website, which serves as a source of information for numerous local media outlets.
For the exhibition opening, the gallery staff invite art bloggers, journalists, art critics, decorators and interior designers, as well as buyers and collectors of contemporary art.
All participating artists will receive a photographic report of the exhibition, which they may freely use in their CVs and portfolios.
Due to the current public situation, the offline PR campaign may be subject to change.
