Friends of Our Gallery

We spoke with Ksenia Suldina, creator of the photography project “Tvoi Ruki”.

The friends of our Gallery are fascinating, bold, inquisitive, creative people—and we sincerely admire their talents!

Young photographer Ksenia Suldina photographs the hands of people from a wide range of professions and pursuits. This part of the body is not easy to capture, and it is even harder to portray it beautifully while also revealing the essence of a person’s profession. Her collection includes photographs of the hands of musicians, artists, doctors, and stylists—each one tells a personal story.

Every person’s hands are entirely unique and, at the same time, so alike.

How did you come up with the idea of photographing hands?

The idea actually came out of nowhere: one day, I simply looked at my hands—my wrists, to be precise—and realized they were beautiful and that I wanted to photograph them. As I developed the idea over the next couple of months, I decided to connect the series with people’s occupations. I find my subjects on social media.

Do you consider yourself an artist?

At times, yes.

Do you not think that the concept has become somewhat devalued today? Everyone with a camera is a photographer, and anyone who arranges two little vases is a designer.

Most likely, that is indeed the case. But what matters most is how a person presents themselves. If they are doing it for themselves, that is perfectly fine; it is another matter if they put a price tag on their services.

How are artists’ hands different from anyone else’s?

To me, they are no different. Every person’s hands are entirely unique and, at the same time, so alike.

Ksenia, what is art to you?

Art is emotion. Whether it is an emotion frozen in time or something that evokes it… It does not matter.

We are sure that the hands of the artists and photographers of the Kvartira S Gallery would also look striking against the backdrop of their working materials and finished pieces. Now there is an idea!
