Kvartira S Gallery and Hostellerie La Farandole present the art project “Ancrées et Célestes” / “Earthly and Celestial.”
This project inaugurates a series of international exhibitions at the Hostellerie La Farandole art space.
The exhibition “Earthly and Celestial” is a meditation on “Body and Soul” by two French visual artists. Painting, graphic art, sculpture and installations explore the spiritual and the material, stillness and movement, depth and lightness all at once.
Valérie Leydet’s ethereal sculptures are far removed from realistic figures, conjuring an imaginary world that is mysterious, fragile and poetic. In creating her installations, Valérie embraces upcycling—the creative transformation of waste into works of art.
Artist Patricia Seraydarian, formerly a performer and dancer, subtly sublimates the moving body and the imprint it leaves in space through her painting.
About the artists:
Valérie LEYDET
A visual artist based in the south of France. In her work, she explores and uses upcycled materials—old textiles, wire mesh, cardboard, paper, and yarn of every kind—which she subtly incorporates into her abstract artistic language.
The unbroken thread in Valérie’s work, a metaphor for human existence, gives rise to texture and form, transforming the flat into the three-dimensional.
The artist draws inspiration from Art Brut and Aboriginal art.
“What interests me is the vibration of transformation itself, the magic of poetic metamorphosis. In my sculptures, I like to discern and create signs, traces, and imprints of memories that symbolize the stages and moments of our journey through life. It is like playing with ‘memory switches.’ To evoke the desired associations, I transform fabrics, knot and weave threads, and create hanging sculptures and ‘flying’ figurative installations.”
Patricia SERAIDARIAN
Artist and sculptor.
“My career began in classical dance at the Marseille Opera House. I later went on to teach. My sensitivity and command of the body gradually led me to painting, and specifically to nude figure studies. I enrolled in a six-year programme at the Beaux-Arts de Marseille, while also studying and developing as an artist in classes with the illustrator Gabor Schitty. I also attended the studio of Claude Brice, Ferdinand Léger’s ceramicist, where I studied modelling and ceramics.
In my view, emotions and their artistic expression know no boundaries. I have no stylistic preferences; I like to choose a direction according to the subject of the work, the moment in time, my inner world, and my mood.”
